We wrapped up the month of April and the end of the course by producing an e-archive.  We shared ideas for content for our e-archive in a shared Google drive document.  Ben created a Wordpress site.  It allowed several of us to work simultaneously on our final project.

While we’ve been using Blogger for our group blog throughout the semester, Wordpress is another blogging tool that allows more freedom to design something which looks more like a website than a blog.  We utilized the page feature to create different areas within the site and created a menu for easy navigation.  We also set each group member up with their own account so everyone could be simultaneously working on their piece of the project without having to share login credentials.  Throughout the project we stayed up to date with each other through email and group chat sessions as we added content and then reviewed what we had for additions and revisions.

Our group has been able to utilize the strengths of its members when doing projects.  We often divide work based on our strengths and then have the group review what each person completes.  As we approach the end of the semester, we have had the opportunity to gain an understanding of what adult education is to each of us.  In turn, we have been able to share those ideas with each other and produce projects that are reflective of our collective concept of adult education.  By working together we have been able to learn from each other, discuss concepts, and refine how we view adult education.

This group has been able to complete projects partly based on flexibility of the members.  As adults, we have many responsibilities and it can be hard to find a time that all of us can meet.  But, through the use of various programs and technology, we have been able to keep the group moving forward.  Ironically, trying to find a time for all of us to meet was not a problem.   We have gained from being able to do our work online in a way that would not have been possible were it to take place in a traditional setting.

As we finish this course, we have all learned from this experience how to pull together to complete the end goal.

    1. Keith - It's interesting to see what's available with the different blogging tools while staying in the "free zone." Each blogging tool has different strengths and features and sometimes it can be hard to find exactly what you want. Definitely check out Wordpress and any others you might come across. Sometimes one or another will be perfect for what you're trying to accomplish.

  2. Another comment on your words "Our group has been able to utilize the strengths of its members when doing projects." I had a very similar comment within my survival memo. It made all the difference to bring out the strengths of each group member. Especially more near the end of the semester. Keith

  3. I agree that it is very important to play off the strengths of your team in that everyone brings something to the table. I feel from you summary that you did a good job in identifying your teammates strengths and then capitalized on it. I have greatly enjoyed working with each one of you and wish you luck in the future.

    1. Thanks, man. We had a little struggle at first like everyone else, but we purposefully spent time to make things work. It was a pleasure learning with you also this semester.

  4. Great Summary. I am learning new websites through each groups project. It sounds like using WordPress worked well for your group. It is important to utilize the strength of the group members. In my group, Katie was great at putting together the structure of the blog and website. I also like the idea of using Google Docs to share work documents. I think in larger groups this would be the most helpful in combining work. Again Great job.

    1. At first we tried emailing a word doc around, but as we were all trying to work on it, we quickly ran into an issue with forked versions. Google drive, or Google docs, ended up being a great tool. The one drawback is you're not able to do all the APA formatting necessary, but the bulk of the paper can be completed with a few changes made right before submitting.

  5. I'm always so impressed by your groups hard work and diligence. I think taking the extra step of proofing and editing each others work is awesome! It shows how much you value the course assignments and each other as group members. It seems your group functioned very well over the course of this class and benefited greatly from each other.

    1. Thank you Katie. This group taught me so many things. The final edits were sometimes challenging.

  6. I liked learning that using wordpress would allow several members of the group to work on the site at the same time. I always enjoy what your group put together for the assignments. It does truly seems as you are a "well oiled machine". It seems as you did learned what the strengths were of each member and used those through out the semester. We tried to do that as well with our group and think we were pretty successful.

  7. I have always been so impressed with the way Group 1 has worked together. From the beginning, the four of you have consistently put great effort into your blogs, assignments, comments, and now the e-Archive. I've learned a lot by reading your posts! For example, I really like Google Share and wish Petra and I had known about that option from the beginning. It would have made our communication stronger. Wonderful job this semester!!

    1. Thank you, Erin! Do you think it'd be useful for Dr Chang to ask groups to share what tools they're using early on in the semester?

I wish we would have tired a shared Google drive for our papers instead of emailing them back and forth. I'll remeber this next time I am in a group.

    3. Ben, great suggestions! :) I probably can ask student to introduce the tools they use in week 1 introduction!

---- This is a very interesting observation! I noticed this too! I usually prefer virtual communications since it saves my time.
